The Power of the Holy Spirit and Ministry
The Power of the Holy Spirit and Ministry
"But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and ye shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and throughout all Judea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
Bible Reading of the Year: 2 Kings 23-25
In a small village in the interior of Kalimantan, a young servant of the Lord once experienced great fear when asked to lead a convention. He felt that he was not good enough to speak and had no experience. However, in a simple prayer, he asked for the help of the Holy Spirit.
As he began to preach, something unexpected happened, and his words flowed clearly, powerfully, and touched the hearts of the congregation. After the service, some people came in tears, claiming to have experienced recovery and repentance. The young minister realized one thing: service is not about human ability, but about the power of the Holy Spirit working through obedience.
The verse in Acts 1:8 confirms that the power of the Holy Spirit is the main foundation in Christian ministry. The word "power" comes from the Greek dynamis, which means divine power that is effective and produces real impact. This is not just spiritual energy, but a power that changes lives, gives courage, and enables one to be a witness of Christ in all contexts.
First, rely on the Holy
Spirit in every service.
A ministry that relies solely on human strategy will quickly lose its spiritual
power. But when one relies on the Holy Spirit through prayer and intimacy with
God, his ministry becomes a means of divine work. Like the apostles, their
courage came not from themselves, but from the Spirit that filled them.
Second, to serve with courage as
a witness of Christ.
The Holy Spirit not only gives power, but also the courage (parrhesia)
to testify. In a world that often rejects the truth, believers are called to
remain faithful to proclaiming the gospel, both in word and deed. Authentic
living testimony is the most powerful form of service.
Third, expanding services
beyond the comfort zone.
Jesus mentioned Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth as the
scope of the testimony. This shows that the service should not be stagnant. The
Holy Spirit encourages the church to go out, reach out to the different, even
the hard-to-reach. True ministry is always missionary.
The power of the Holy Spirit is not just a momentary emotional experience, but a reality that continues to work in the believer's life. He strengthens, leads, and transforms ministry into an instrument of God's glory.
Prayer:
Loving Lord God, we are grateful for
Your promise of the Holy Spirit empowering our lives. Teach us not to rely on
our own strength, but to live in complete dependence on You. Give us the
courage to be Your witnesses wherever we are. Use our lives as a tool to bring
Your light and love to the world. In the name of Jesus, we pray, amen.
