Family : Sow in Faith, Reap Blessings

Family: Sow in Faith, Reap Blessings

“Remember this: He who sows little will also reap little, and he who sows much will also reap much. Let each one give according to his own will, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

Bible Reading of the Year: 1 Chronicles 17-21

In the 19th century, there lived a Christian businessman named George Müller who was famous for his orphanage ministry in England. In one testimony, a simple family was moved to give most of their savings to support the ministry of orphans who were in need of food. Humanly, the decision looks reckless. After giving, they themselves had only a small supply of food at home. But they believe that God is able to preserve their lives.

A few days later, the father unexpectedly got a new job offer with a much better income. Shortly after, their family also received help from someone who didn't even know their condition. They realise one important thing: God never owes it to His children who give by faith.

God's words in Paul's letter to the Corinthians teach a very deep spiritual principle: he who sows much will reap much. It's not just about money; it's about a heart that believes in God. Giving to God's work is an act of faith. The world says, “Keep it safe,” but faith says, “Trust in the God who preserves.”

The Christian family is called not only to be recipients of blessings, but also to dispense blessings. When a family learns to give to ministry, evangelism, the church, and the needy, it is sowing spiritual seeds that will bear fruit in time.

Here are three practical applications that we can do, namely:

First, make giving a family culture. Teach children from childhood to set aside some of the blessings for the Lord's work. Families who learn to give together will learn to trust together.

Second, give with joy, not compulsion. God looks at the heart, not the number. A small offering given with love is more valuable than a large gift full of complaints. Don't give while “denigrating the level of the prophet Habakkuk.” God loves a sincere heart.

Third, believe that God is the source of sustenance. Often, fear makes it difficult for people to give. But God's words remind us that God is able to provide for the needs of His people. What is sown in faith will not be in vain.

A giving family will experience spiritual joy, peace, and the Lord's miraculous providence. The greatest blessing is not just material, but seeing the Lord at work in family life.

Prayer:

Loving Lord God, teach us to be a generous family and faithfully support Your work. Deliver us from a fearful and selfish heart. Give us the faith to believe that You are the source of all blessings. Use our family to be a conduit of love and help for many. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
