Don't Be Afraid to Step Up
Don't Be Afraid to Step Up
“Have I not commanded you: Be strong and strengthen your hearts? Do not be bitter and discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
Bible Reading of the Year: Job 14-16
When the Israelites came out of Egypt, they faced an uneasy journey. They had to pass through vast deserts, face food and water shortages, and face various enemies. After Moses died, the Israelites were again at a decisive point. They had to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land. The great task is now in Joshua's hands.
Humanly, Joshua certainly had many reasons to be afraid. He must lead millions, face powerful nations, and continue the highly respected leadership of Moses. But in the midst of that challenge, God gave one unequivocal command: “Do not be afraid!” God does not promise a trouble-free path, but He promises His faithful participation.
The same message applies to believers today. Many people are afraid to step forward because of the uncertainty of the future. Some are afraid to start the ministry, afraid to make important decisions, afraid to face job challenges, or afraid to embark on a new season of life. Fear often makes a person stop before trying. But God's words remind us that true courage is not the absence of fear, but the belief that God walks with us.
God's inclusion was the basis for Joshua's courage. It is not his personal ability, not his military experience, and not the strength of his nation that is the guarantee of victory. What is guaranteed is the presence of God Himself. When God is with us, difficult paths can be walked, and great challenges can be faced with faith.
There are three practical applications that are carried
out, namely:
First,
walk by faith, not feelings. Feelings of fear often come and go. But God's word
remained steadfast. When faced with important decisions, prioritise the truth
of God's word over the worries that arise in your heart.
Second, involve
God in every plan. Before taking a new step, bring it all in prayer. Ask for
God's wisdom and guidance. When God leads, we have a clear direction to go.
Third, remember God's participation in the past. Record and ponder the Lord's help you have experienced. The testimony of the past will strengthen faith to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.
Brother, perhaps today you are standing in front of the “Jordan River” in your own life. There may be challenges that seem big and daunting. Don't let fear dominate your heart. The God who was with Joshua is the same God who is with His people today. Therefore, strengthen and strengthen your heart. Walk in faith, for the Lord walks with you.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your words that strengthen us. When we face uncertainty, teach us not to be overcome by fear. Give it the courage to step in Your will and the faith to trust in Your participation every day. Please remember that You never forsake Your children. Strengthen our hearts to remain faithful and steadfast in living the calling of life that You have given. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
