Show Your Light To The World
Show Your Light To The World
“Thus let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Bible Reading of the Year: Ezra 1-3
In the first century, when the persecution of Christians intensified under the rule of Emperor Nero, there is a testimony recorded by early church writers of the church in Rome. In the midst of threats, they continue to show the love of Christ to the community. When plagues swept through the city, and many people fled for fear of being infected, Christians stayed to care for the sick, feed orphans, and bury the poor who were abandoned.
To the Roman world at that time, the act felt strange. They asked, “Why are these people willing to risk their lives for the sake of others?” The answer is simple: because the light of Christ lives in them. Their lives became a testimony more powerful than any speech. The world sees God's love through the real actions of believers.
Jesus in Matthew 5:16 not only asked believers to have light, but also to show that light to the world. Light was not created to be hidden. The lights were turned on to dispel the darkness. Similarly, the life of a believer is called to bring divine influence in the midst of a world full of selfishness, hatred, and falsehood.
Being bright does not mean seeking human praise. Jesus affirmed that the ultimate goal is for the Father in heaven to be glorified. That is, the true Christian life always directs attention to God, not to himself. Good deeds become a bridge for the world to know the character of Christ.
There
are three practical applications that can be made to show the light of Christ
to the world:
First, to
be a Person Who Brings Love. The world today is filled with anger and mutual
degradation. Believers are called to bring love through uplifting words,
forgiving attitudes, and concern for others. Small, sincere love is often a
great light to the one who is hurting.
Second,
it shows Integrity in Life. The Light of Christ is seen through honesty and
true character. In the workplace, college, church, or family, believers must be
different in attitudes and actions. The world may not always read the Bible,
but the world reads the lives of Christians every day.
Third, dare to be a witness of Christ. Many people are ashamed to reveal their faith identity. Even though the world needs the news of salvation. To be a light means to dare to profess faith in Christ through words, service, and lifestyle that reflect the gospel.
Even a small light still has the power to defeat darkness. Don't think that our lives are meaningless. When a person lives in love, truth, and holiness, the world can see Christ through him.
Prayer:
The loving Lord God, make our lives light for this world. Help us not to live selfishly and afraid to express Your love. Use our words, actions, and character so that others can see Your glory. Teach us to live in the truth and be Your witnesses wherever we are. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
