Boldly Proclaim Christ
Boldly Proclaim Christ
“For God has given us not a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love, and order” (2 Timothy 1:7).
Bible Reading of the Year: Ezra 4-7
In the first century, after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the disciples faced great pressure. The Roman Empire viewed the preaching of the gospel as a threat. Many of the Jews also rejected the news of the risen Messiah. One of the most stirring stories occurred when the apostles Peter and John were arrested by the Sanhedrin for preaching about Jesus in Jerusalem.
They were threatened, imprisoned, and even ordered to stop talking about Christ. But their answer was very bold: “Please decide for yourselves which is right before Allah: obey you or obey Allah. For it is impossible for us not to speak of what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:19-20).
Imagine the situation. They are not soldiers, not officials, not influential rich people. They were just ordinary Galilean fishermen. But after being filled with the Holy Spirit, their fear turned into great courage. Peter, who had once denied Jesus in front of a female servant, now stands before the religious leaders without fear. This proves that true courage does not come from human strength, but from the Spirit of God.
Paul wrote to Timothy that God does not give a spirit of fear. In Greek, the word “fear” refers to a cowardly attitude that paralyses a person. Instead, God gives three important things: strength, love, and order. Power keeps believers steadfast. Love makes the preaching of the gospel done with the right heart, not with pride. Order or self-control keeps believers wise in witnessing.
Today, many Christians are afraid to preach Christ. Some are afraid of being rejected, afraid of being hated, afraid of losing friends, and even afraid of being considered old-fashioned. But the gospels were never meant to be kept on their own like super-complicated password-locked secret files. The gospel is the news of life that must be shared with a world that is losing its way.
There
are three practical applications that we can do, namely:
First,
dare to testify through words and actions. Begin sharing Christ's love with
family, friends, or co-workers through upbuilding words and exemplary living.
Second,
defeat fear with prayer. When afraid to testify, don't give in to that fear.
Come to the Lord and ask for courage from the Holy Spirit, like the early
church.
Third, use digital media to preach the gospel. In the digital age, testimony is not only done in the pulpit of the church. Use social media, videos, writing, and positive content to proclaim Christ to many people.
Courageously proclaiming Christ does not mean living without threats, but remaining faithful in the face of challenges. The world needs believers who are not ashamed to confess Jesus as Lord. Don't let faith live only in the church building, but let the light of Christ shine through our lives every day.
Prayer:
Loving Lord God, thank You that You did not give us a spirit of fear. Fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit so that we may have the courage to preach Your gospel wherever we are. Help us not to be ashamed to acknowledge Your name in the midst of this world. Use our lives as a tool to bring many to salvation in Christ. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
