Living for the Glory of God
Living for the Glory of God
"Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as to the Lord, and not to
men" (Colossians 3:23).
One day, the Apostle Paul was in prison for preaching the Gospel. Humanly, prison is a place full of suffering, limitations, and injustice. However, Paul did not allow that to dampen his spirit. It was precisely from behind bars that he wrote letters that strengthened the church, including the letter to the church in Colossae.
He did not complain because he felt that his life had failed. Instead, Paul continued to serve the Lord faithfully. For him, service does not depend on place, but on a heart that loves Christ. Paul's faithfulness is proof that a life dedicated to God will continue to bear fruit, even in difficult circumstances.
Colossians 3:23 teaches an important principle for every believer. The Apostle Paul affirms that whatever we do should be done wholeheartedly as for God, not just to please people. This verse not only talks about formal work, but also covers all aspects of life: studying, serving, building a family, running a business, or doing simple tasks every day.
Often, humans work only to gain praise, appreciation, or profit. When appreciation does not come, enthusiasm decreases. But God's words change our perspective. God is the One who sees our every effort, faithfulness, and sacrifice, even when no one is paying attention. Therefore, the main motivation of believers is not to seek human recognition but to glorify God through every action.
When life is directed to the glory of God, even simple work becomes worship that is pleasing to Him. A teacher who teaches with love, a student who learns honestly, a merchant who acts justly, or a mother who serves her family with joy—all can be beautiful offerings before the Lord when done with a sincere heart.
There are three practical applications that can be
done, namely:
First, perform each responsibility with integrity. Don't
work until it's done, but give your best because God is the main Judge of our
lives.
Second, straighten out your motivation every day. Before
starting the activity, pray that every work will be done to glorify God, not
for the praise of man.
Third, stay faithful in small things. Faithfulness in simple duty is the foundation for the greater service and responsibility that the Lord entrusts.
Prayer:
Father in heaven, thank you for Your words that remind us to do all things with all our hearts as for God. Forgive us when our motivation is more centred on human praise than Your glory. Help us to remain faithful, honest, and passionate in every job, big and small. Let our lives be a testimony that glorifies Your name wherever we are. Use every talent, time, and opportunity you give to be a blessing to many. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
