Learning to Believe Through Prayer

Learning to Believe Through Prayer

Therefore I say unto you: whatsoever ye ask and pray, believe that ye have received it, and it shall be given you” (Mark 11:24).

Bible Reading of the Year: Esther 1-5

In the early church, Christians often suffered severe persecution because of their faith in Christ. One of the most famous stories is recorded in Acts chapter 12. When the apostle Peter was imprisoned by King Herod and guarded very tightly, the church had no political or military power to release him. But they have something much more powerful: prayer.

The Bible records that the church prayed diligently and earnestly for Peter. The night before his trial, God sent His angel to miraculously free him from prison. The chains came off, the doors opened, and Peter came out safely.

Interestingly, when Peter arrived at the house where the congregation had gathered to pray, some of them even found it hard to believe that God had answered their prayers. This story shows that God works beyond human limitations. When God's people pray in faith, He is able to do things that are impossible in the eyes of man.

In Mark 11:24, Jesus taught an important principle about prayer. God wants His children to come to Him with faith, not with doubt. Believing in prayer does not mean forcing God to follow our desires, but having the confidence that God hears, understands, and will give the best according to His will.

Many times we pray, but our hearts are filled with doubts. We ask God for help, but at the same time, we are constantly overcome by fear. The faith that Jesus taught was not confidence in one's own abilities, but confidence in God's faithful, loving, and sovereign character.

Learning to believe through prayer is a lifelong process. Every time we pray, we are surrendering control of life to God and acknowledging that He is wiser than we are.

Here are three practical applications that can be done, namely:

First, pray based on the promises of God's Word. Faith grows when we base our prayers on the truth of the Word, not just on the feelings or circumstances we are experiencing.

Second, leave the results to God. After praying, do not constantly live in anxiety. Believe that God is at work, even if we haven't seen the answer yet.

Second, record the answers to prayers that God has given. Remembering God's faithfulness in the past will strengthen our faith to face the ongoing struggles of the present.

Today, there may be struggles that feel heavy. There may be prayers that have been raised for a long time but have not been answered. Don't give up. The God who freed Peter from prison is the same God who works in our lives today. Keep praying and learn to trust Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the God who hears the prayers of Your children. Forgive us when we are overcome by more doubt than faith. Teach us to trust in You in all circumstances. Help us to keep praying diligently and leave our whole lives in Your hands. Let our faith grow and grow stronger every day. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
