Posterity Becomes a Blessing
“Every day he has compassion and lends, and his descendants have become a blessing” (Psalm 37:26).

Bible Reading of the Year: 2 Chronicles 6-8

An old evangelist in a small village in Indonesia once lived a very simple life. His house was small, his clothes were ordinary, but his life was filled with love for God and others. He often helped the poor, prayed for the sick, and taught children to read the Bible without asking for a fee. Many people consider his life “unsuccessful” because he is not rich.

But after he died, his children and grandchildren actually became the personalities who had a big impact. Some became teachers, pastors, doctors, and public servants. They are known not only for their success, but for their God-fearing hearts and love to help others. The people of the village said, “His grandfather's kindness flowed to his children and grandchildren.”

Psalm 37:26 shows that the life of the righteous does not stop at himself. God's blessing can flow to the next generation. The phrase “his descendants become a blessing” speaks not only of material wealth but of spiritual inheritance, character, and life that glorifies God. The modern world often measures success by the amount of money or popularity. But the Bible teaches that the greatest inheritance is a righteous life before God.

There are three practical applications that we can do so that our children and grandchildren become blessings.

First, live in the fear of God. Children learn more from example than advice. When they see parents who are faithfully prayerful, honest, loving to others, and faithfully worshipping, those values will be embedded in their lives. A living faith will be inherited through daily life.

Second, get used to the culture of giving and helping. Psalm 37:26 says that the righteous are merciful and lend. Generosity shapes children's hearts so that they are not selfish. Families that like to help will give birth to a generation that is the answer to the needs of others. God's blessed children and grandchildren should not only enjoy blessings, but also channel blessings.

Third, build a family altar. Take time to read God's Word together, pray together, and strengthen one another. Many modern families are busy with gadgets but poor in spiritual communication. Even though the family altar is an important foundation for building a strong generation in faith. A house filled with prayer will produce offspring who know God.

Today, we may not have seen the results in person. But believe me, a righteous life before God is never in vain. What is planted in faith today can be a great blessing for generations to come. God is able to use our children and grandchildren to be instruments of His glory in the midst of the world.

Prayer:

The loving Lord God, teach us to live righteously before You. Enable us to be examples of the faith for our children and grandchildren. Plant a God-fearing, helpful, and faithful heart to Your Word in our family. Let the generation after us be a blessing to many and glorify Your name. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
